Services

Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. is the largest cytology laboratory and the largest biopsy laboratory in the Czech Republic. Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. employs 260 workers, including 50 doctors and university staff. It offers examinations of gynecological cytology (oncological and functional examination of smears from the cervix, vaginal, vulvar and endometrial mucosa) and non-gynecological cytology, biopsy, as well as complete biopsy service with a direct connection to any necessary immunohistochemical and molecular genetic testing for all surgical, dermatological, gastroenterological, ENT, gynecologic practices and hospitals.

In 2016, the laboratory examinated 150,000 patients for biopsy, and 800,000 patients for cytology. It has contracts with all health insurance companies in the country. It has the largest genetic department, which is specialized in diagnostic of oncology issues. It is accredited by ČIA (Czech Institute for Accreditation) under ČSN EN ISO 15189 and holds accreditation of Ministry of Health for cervical cancer screening.

The Association of health insurance companies has chosen the Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. as one of the few laboratories in the Czech Republic for the program of predictive oncology, that have approved the genetic performances in pathology, such as examination of HER2/neu in breast cancer, as well as KRAS mutation of cancer of the colon and rectum.

The results of all tests are handed over each week. Material for examination is transported directly from surgeries at the expense of the Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. on agreed dates at least per week, and for hospital operations 2-3 times a week in providing biopsies. The laboratory is able to provide results of most biopsies within 48 hours after the collection examined materials.

Because of unification and standardization of the methodology of collection and processing of examined materials and results reporting, Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. provides its clients with services and uniform equipment for implementation of cytology and biopsy examination for free.

Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. can send the results of biopsy and cytology findings not only via the traditional paper accompanying documents, but also after an agreement, on disks. This means, that it is not necessary to rewrite the findings manually into a computer. Special software of Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. WinZis allows clinicians to pick up biopsy and cytology results directly on the website of laboratory (WebZIS service).

Scientific and medical publishing of lab doctors

Almost all the available funds of laboratory are reinvested in its own research, particularly in molecular genetic methods. Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. publishes extensively. Over the last ten years of existence of the Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o., their doctors have published nearly 700 publications in top world international impacted journals (see Our publications) and almost 300 articles in Czech professional journals. Almost half of the scientific articles have been implemented in the best American professional pathology journals.

In recent years, doctors of Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. have discovered many new, as yet undescribed tumors and several other new, undescribed variants of tumors. Thus, the laboratory has become one of the world's most successful workplaces. Laboratory workers are therefore regularly invited as speakers to prestigious European, American and international professional congresses.

Pathologists of Bioptická laboratoř s.r.o. have authorial share in writing several chapters of 5 of 10 volumes of the last classification of tumors of the World Health Organization (2003-2015). This was the WHO classification of "Tumors of soft tissue and bones", "Head and neck tumors" and "Skin tumors", "Tumors of the male genital tract" and "Breast cancer". These official "blue books of World Health Organization" are the most basic reference for the classification of human tumors worldwide.

Due to standardization of diagnostics, laboratory workers developed a unique professional website for the Czech and Slovak clinicians, dealing with the classification of tumors of several organs, like tumors of the testicles, breast, bladder, kidney and prostate (see www.nadory.cz). Processing of other organs is currently in preparation.

He is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology, Applied Immunohistochemistry & Molecular Morphology and Human Pathology. Prof. Dmitry Kazakov, MD, PhD is member of editorial board of the American Journal of Dermatopathology and the editorial board of Dermatopathology (Assistant Editor). Prof. A. Chlumská, MD, PhD is our best gastro-enteric pathology expert, as well as J. Kulhánková, MD, who is our leading expert in gynecological cytology.

For the pathology in Czech Republic, this laboratory is important also because its staff are annually requested for consultations with other departments, in the cases of complex and difficult diagnosable tumor processes. Last year, consulting workers of the laboratory responded to requests from almost 10,000 cases from the Czech Republic and abroad. In recent years, requests for consultations from around the world are sent to this lab.
